Online Blackjack Rules

Online Blackjack is a card game that is very popular among gamblers, being found in virtually each casino, be it online or brick and mortar casinos. There is a rather large number of distinct variations of blackjack, but here, we’ll talk only about the variation that is most commonly found in casinos.

The goal in blackjack is to get a hand that has a total higher than the one of the dealer, but at the same time, not be higher than 21.

You start with two cards, and, as long as the sum of the cards’ points is smaller than 21, you can request another card, this action being called “hit”. If the sum of your cards surpasses 21, then it’s called “busted” and you lose the game.

If you think that you have enough cards, you can choose to “stand”, which means that the dealer stops giving you additional cards and he will continue with the house’s hand.

The cards values are as following: aces can be valued as either 1 or 11, the numbered cards (2-9) are valued with their card number, while all the cards starting with 10 have a value of 10.

When the first two cards are an ace and a 10 or a face card, then the player wins the game automatically, unless the dealer also has a blackjack, in which case it will be a tie (called “push” in blackjack). A blackjack winning hand is paid more, 1.5 times the original bet.

The dealer shows one card and then it gives two cards to the player. The player always acts before the dealer and he can choose to get more cards or stand. If the player didn’t bust, then it’s the turn of the dealer, who also may stand or get more cards and it’s possible for the dealer to go bust, too.

If the dealer’s first card is an ace, then it’s possible for the player to get insurance. The player pays half of the original bet and in case the following card is a 10-point card and the dealer gets blackjack, the player would simply get his original bet back.
If you have a pair, you can split the two cards into two hands. In order to do that, you’ll pay an additional bet and each of the two hands will get some additional cards.
